This week while going through some intense warfare, I found out in the midst of it I had accidentally somehow scratched my cornea. I went to the eye doctor for a medical visit, and the middle aged female doctor showed me the faint tear on my eye. She asked “Do you know how this happened?” I shrugged my shoulders and just let her know I had been crying but I have no idea how an entire tear formed in my eye. She explained that the eye tends to heal rapidly, and that it should heal in a matter of days.
When I got to the office my eye was uncomfortable and would not stop tearing up. The doctor said that it was because every time I blinked, I was rubbing up against the tear causing irritation and the eye to respond with fluid. The doctor, whose demeanor was exceptionally comforting, calmly told me that she could put a contact lens over it would act like a bandaid, and I could come back the next day to have it looked at.
As I left the doctor’s office, feeling somewhat relieved but at the same time bewildered about the state of my eye, I heard the Lord say:
Daughter, I am repairing your vision in this hour. There are things that you are not seeing clearly about yourself, your destiny, and where you are going. I’m adjusting your vision, and in the adjustment there will be some discomfort, but after the discomfort passes, you will see clearly where you are going and where I am taking you. And your excitement for the future I have for you will reignite.
And then he led me to this scripture, Jeremiah 29:11. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Later I was also led to this scripture: John 15:2, "Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that continues to bear fruit, He prunes, so that it will bear more fruit.".
I believe this word is not just for me. That many of us are feeling uncertain about who we are becoming, and where the Lord is leading. But because we know that he has plans to prosper us, it’s important to press into him for instructions, allow him to take us through the discomfort of “pruning” or releasing ways of looking at ourselves that are now outdated, or even titles, occupations, careers that no longer fit, and be willing to follow the Father’s leading unabashedly until we reach the future He intends for us. When He course corrects us or “adjusts” our vision it will likely push us out of our comfort zone, and for some it may be painful - but only because we refuse to release the old, and embrace the new path He has instructed. When a tree is pruned, all of the dead branches are removed, and even some of the unhealthy parts on healthy branches have to be cut away, to make room for the tree to flourish like never before. If we get out of our own way, God will prune the ways of thinking that are no longer serving us, and upgrade our mindset to where He is taking us.
Today, this week, this month, I believe the Lord wants you to ask him about how He sees you, and where your plans or ideas need adjustment. If you yield to Him and trust the process, He can accelerate what He wants to do through you and get you in position for the great harvest that is coming.
